The Worker and the Peasant Woman Monument
The Worker and the Peasant Woman Monument
A replica of the famous monument Worker and Kolkhoz Woman by Vera Mukhina is located at the entrance to the Museum of Automotive Engineering in the city of Verkhnyaya Pyshma, Sverdlovsk Region. The replica is made on a 1:2.5 scale.
The sculpture was cast in aluminum alloy using the HTS method, and to ensure the stability and durability of the structure, it was assembled on a metal frame made of corrosion-resistant steel.
Creating the monument was a multi-stage process that required participation of specialists in various fields:
1. Preparation and creation of a reduced model by a sculptor based on archival photographs and documentation.
2. Scaling: the model was enlarged to the design size by a team of specialists who performed the scaling process.
3. Digitalization: the enlarged model was 3D-scanned to create an accurate digital model.
4. Producing plaster molds and models for casting by a team of formators.
5. Casting: the elements of the sculpture were cast in aluminum alloy.
6. Design and creating the supporting structure:
– development of a metal frame design using a digital model, and conducting strength calculations to ensure reliability of the structure;
– production of a metal frame made of corrosion-resistant steel.
7. Pre-assembly and fitting of the monument's elements in the production workshop.
8. Transportation and installation:
– the components delivering to the installation site;
– assembling the metal frame on site; – installation of the cast shell on the frame.
9. Finishing:
– welding and cleaning of the welded joints;
– priming and painting of the sculpture's surface;
– installation of the monument on the pedestal;
– filling the mounting holes and final finishing of the product.
This project demonstrates combination of traditional sculptural techniques and modern digital technologies in creating large-format artworks.
